About Us

Our Journey to Crochet

In 4th grade, Lily went to Joann and bought a bright blue skein of yarn. Originally for finger knitting, Lily quickly realized how much more she could do with a simple skein of yarn. Picking up a crochet hook... magic started happening.

Later, in 6th grade, Adelina bought a set of crochet hooks and yarn from Amazon. Over winter break, the two took a road trip with their families to Tahoe, and on the car ride, Lily taught Adelina how to crochet. Although Adelina did not crochet much back then, she is now well versed in crochet stitches.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lily & Adelina were just midgety middle schoolers who wanted nothing more than to stay at home and crochet. To this day, there is nothing better to them than sleeping in & waking up to a new ball of yarn ready to be crocheted with.

Although the two have taken their own paths (Adelina runs an Etsy shop and Lily runs a YouTube channel), they are joined by their mutual love for crochet, and it has kept them bonded since 2017.

Creating Charitable Crochet

On Saturday, October 21, 2021, Lily raced down sets of stairs to Adelina, unable to contain her excitement and ideas spilling out.

"We should create a crochet organization."

Those were the words that started the late nights of calling and many more days of planning for events. Originally, their plan was to make crocheted blankets and donate them to organizations like Warm Up America, but that quickly changed due to time constraints. From there, Crochet Basics Classes were born and quickly took off. But not without some obstacles.

Wanting to expand their reach to those outside the Lamorinda community, they created fundraisers to support various organizations such as Toys for Tots and Save the Children's Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, where they have donated a combined total of $324.

In early February, the idea of a summer craft camp came across them. During their attempts to find a place to host these camps, they emailed the Lafayette Library. The teen coordinator kindly offered to create a program with Lily & Adelina as part of a library program, but COVID was not kind. Just as cases declined, the lifting of the masking mandate drove cases back up, causing the library to push back starting in-person programs. As of now, they are still unsure of when the library will be open for in-person programs again, but they have strong hopes for the late summer & fall.
